Seminar on veterinary cardiology held as part of a professional development programme

On Thursday, July 3, 2025, organized by the Dogs Trust Foundation, a professional seminar was held within the Project "Education of Veterinary Doctors and Technicians in the Implementation of Professional Development Programmes in Surgical Disciplines".

The topic of this seminar was "Veterinary Cardiology – Focus on Practical Challenges", and the main goal was to connect the approach of anaesthesia with cardiological cases in everyday practice.

Veterinarians and veterinary students had the opportunity to acquire specific knowledge on how to recognize and suspect heart problems in dogs, when and to whom to refer the patient for a cardiological examination, how the examination itself looks like and what are the most common diagnoses and therapies.

The seminar was opened with the welcome words of prof. dr. Selma Filipović on behalf of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Anida Dinarević, head of the operational department of the Dogs Trust Foundation.

A special guest lecturer was Robert Trujanović, Dip. ECVAA, GPCert (Cardio), renowned expert in the field of anaesthesiology and veterinary cardiology, who gave three lectures:

  • General principles of anaesthesia in dogs with heart disease.
  • Identifying dogs with significant heart problems and preparing for anaesthesia.
  • Anaesthesia in dogs with heart disease.

His lectures were informative and rich in practical examples from personal many years of practice.

Also, knowledge was shared by experts from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine:

  • Dr. Vet. Med. Dajna Preldžić, senior assistant, through the topic "Cardiological examination in teaching and clinical practice"
  • Prof. dr. Alan Maksimović and Dr. Vet. Med. Bianca Pehar, Cert. BLS & ALS Vet., through a practical demonstration of veterinary CPR

We would like to thank all the participants for their active participation, as well as Ketti Svijet Ljubimaca for organizing the catering after the seminar.

Through this programme, the Dogs Trust continues its mission of improving dog welfare – through education and empowering the veterinary community to provide quality and humane care for our four-legged friends.
