On Saturday, 27 January 2024, Dogs Trust Foundation BiH supported the event within the project "Be Smart with Dogs: Initiative for a Cleaner Sarajevo" launched by a student of the Second Gymnasium Sarajevo.
On the promenade in front of the Dobrinja Sports Hall, students of the Second Gymnasium and members of Dogs Trust Foundation team socialized with dog owners while handing out promotional leaflets created by the students themselves, as well as dog waste bags and gifts for dog owners provided by Dogs Trust. In addition to tips for responsible ownership, many passers-by, dog lovers who are considering getting a dog or becoming our fostering volunteer, could also consult with our fostering coordinator, Elvira.
The event was also the announcement of the installation of bins intended exclusively for dog waste in this part of the city, with the support and approval of the Municipality of Novi Grad, scheduled for the beginning of February.
This praiseworthy initiative of the high school students was also supported by Klas Sarajevo, so the visitors with whom we hung out could enjoy their famous Bosnian lokums.
One of the very important ways to take adequate care of pets is for owners to always clean up after their dogs because dogs can't do it on their own! Dogs are our loyal friends and as pets they give us unconditional love and loyalty, and they deserve everything they need to be taken care of and happy, because that is the only way to ensure that the whole community is happy.
We praise the initiative of young people such as Asja Đerzić and her friends from the Second Gymnasium, which will hopefully serve other young people and citizens as an inspiration to advocate for a happier community in which they live, and to help raise awareness of the importance of a responsible and humane attitude towards animals and nature.
For twelve years in BiH, Dogs Trust has been advocating for and significantly supporting the improvement of dog well-being through its programmes that help the implementation of responsible dog ownership and good dog care as the only sustainable, legal and humane way to solve and prevent the recurrence of the problem of stray dogs.
